The Kogi State Government has stated that it is working to ensure that every local government area in the state has a Model Science Secondary School in order to promote science education in the state.
Hon Wemi Jones, the Kogi State Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, made the announcement on Thursday in Lokoja while receiving a Gold Medal Award in Public Administration from the Centre For Ethics and Value Orientation.

The Commissioner stated that the state is constructing three model science secondary schools in the state's three senatorial districts.
He also stated that every local government area in the state will have a GYB Model Science Secondary School by the end of the first quarter of 2022.
According to Hon Jones, this is why the current administration increased budgetary provision for education from 20% to 30% in the 2022 budget.
The Commissioner went on to say that the state had exceeded the UNESCO benchmark of 26% allocation to education, describing Governor Yahaya Bello as a miracle worker and education lover.
In addition, he hinted that the ministry of education was already working to convert many schools in the state to Model Science Secondary Schools in order for the state to meet the requirements for indigenes to fill its quota at the new Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara.
