Nnamdi Kanu Receives Red Carpet Treatment in DSS Detention Facility
The Department of State Services DSS, On
Tuesday, denied allegations that Nnamdi
Kanu, the leader IPOB, was mistreated while in its custody.
According to DSS spokesperson Mr Peter Afunanya
said Kanu is treated as a Very Important Person,
VIP.
Afunanya, maintained that, contrary to IPOB's claims, Kanu has never been denied a change of clothes and that he gets anything he wants.
"The Service denies all the inciting charges by IPOB and asserts that Nnamdi Kanu is not, in any manner, maltreated in detention," Accusations of maltreatment contradict the Service's Standard Operating Procedure on the application of a suspect's rights. Nnamdi Kanu enjoys full luxury at the holding facility. He has never been denied the right to worship or practice his own religion. "Adequate
attention is provided to Kanu's health. He has free and unrestricted access to
the best medical care and doctors. Kanu himself has attested to his visitors
that the Service has never mistreated him in any way. He even confirmed this to
Senators Ike Ekweremadu and Enyinnaya Abaribe, as well as Bishop Sunday Onuoha
of the Methodist Church of Nigeria and Co-Chair of the Interfaith Dialogue
Forum for Peace. And Ohanaeze Ndigbo Secretary-General, Ambassador Okechukwu
Emuchay, MFR, who met with him on Wednesday, December 8, 2021.
"The story about Kanu becoming hungry is false. He couldn't
have been hungry because he eats anything he wants. It is also incorrect that
he is not permitted to change his clothes. In contrast to what IPOB
propagandists portray, he is allowed to change his clothes on a regular basis.
If he is being mistreated, how come his visitors told him he looked good? All
of the claims against him, including violations of his rights as a suspect,
victimization, and malnutrition, are false.
"It is sad that some elements have opted
to employ plain deception to describe the status of circumstances." Those
that spread fake news do so to garner unwarranted attention for the sole aim of
accomplishing the desired result."
The DSS spokesman accused Kanu's attorneys and
IPOB of distributing false and deceptive information about the secret police.
"Rather of focusing on how he should be treated, Kanu's legal
team and some nefarious elements within them have chosen to deceive the public
with phony news." While the Court wisely ordered that Kanu be remanded in
the safer DSS custody, some of his legal representatives selected Kuje Prison
for reasons best known to them and have failed to explain the basis for such
choice.
"It may be of interest to the public to note that a
particular lawyer on Kanu's Team is feasting on the matter in such a way that
one can conclude that his interest goes beyond getting justice for his
client." Regardless, the Court has the final say on the subject," he
stressed.
