Okorocha’s father-in-law in handcuffs and Taken to Prison
A day after his controversial arrest by police on Sunday, photos of Uche Nwosu, the son-in-law of former Imo State
Governor Rochas Okorocha, have surfaced on Facebook, showing him handcuffed and sitting in the back of a Prison truck.
Nwosu, a
former Action Alliance candidate for governor in the 2019 Imo gubernatorial
election, was photographed wearing only a T-shirt, supporting claims that he
was violently attacked and had his clothing ripped during his arrest.
In the
photo, Mr. Nwosu appeared to be at ease. He sat next to an officer whose face
was not captured.
For the
time being, it is unclear who took that picture and why.
After his
mother's funeral, Mr. Nwosu and his family, including Mr. Okorocha's wife, have
been holding a thanksgiving service at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Nkwerre,
Imo State, when officers stormed the church and arrested him.
Officers
hit and pushed Mr. Okorocha's wife, Nkechi, and their daughter, Uloma, who is
Mr. Nwosu's wife, to the ground, according to an aide to Mr. Nwosu, Darlington
Ibekwe. when the two tried to find out why Mr. Nwosu was being detained.
Officers
opened fire into the air as they led the man to a waiting car and drove away.
Because of
the manner in which Nwosu was apprehended, many people assumed he had been
kidnapped. The police, on the other hand, have not stated why Mr. Nwosu was
detained.
'There is
no arrest warrant, and there is no invitation.'
According
to a report in the Daily Times, the police did not have an arrest warrant for
Okorocha's son-in-law and did not invite him to question him.
Until Imo
police came out and said he was in their custody, he was a known gunman.
"They
pushed my wife and tore my daughter's clothes in the course of their
activities." There is no arrest warrant. There was no invitation. We
suspected a kidnapping at first. While running, many people were injured.
"Uche Nwosu was dragged onto a bus with the Imo state government's
registration plate," said Senator Rochas Okorocha, who represents the Imo
West district.
Senator
Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has been accused of being behind the arrest, which
the state government has denied.
Mr. Uche
Nwosu is being held in handcuffs.
"You
should let the cops do their jobs." "State Information Commissioner
Declan Emelumba told reporters in Owerri on Sunday that Okorocha must
understand that the police have the authority to arrest anyone," he said.
Mr.
Okorocha wanted his son-in-law, Mr. Nwosu, to succeed him as Governor of Imo.
When Mr. Nwosu was unable to secure the Congress of all Okorocha, he resigned.
