Jubilation in Aso Rock as Buhari spends N34 billion on meals, refreshment and travel in six years,

 



According to data gathered from the Federal Government's appropriation bills for the time under consideration, the Presidency's budgetary allocations for food and travels reached N34 billion in six years.

Food cost N5.16 billion, and transport cost N28.94 billion.

Food allocations comprise foodstuff/catering materials supplies, Drinks and meal, and cooking energy costs, while trip allowances include both domestic and foreign travel.

 

It includes the Bureau of Public Enterprises, the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru, the National Emergency Management Agency, the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, the Bureau of Public Procurement, the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative, and the Nigeria Atomic Energy Commission & Its Hubs.

 

 

The State House Medical Centre, the State House Lagos Liaison Office, the President's Chief of Staff's Office, the Chief Security Officer's Office, the Senior Special Assistant to the President–Sustainable Development Goals' Office, and the President's Chief Economic Adviser's Office are also on the list.

On October 7, 2021, President Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) presented the proposed budget for 2022 to a joint session of the National Assembly.

The Federal Government will be forced to borrow extra N6.23 trillion as a result of the N16.39 trillion budget.

 

 

Budgetary appropriations for the time under review have risen and fallen, according to our reporter.

During the time under consideration, travel allocations ate up a higher portion of the budget.

For 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019, the overall budgeted allocation for food and transportation was N3.27 billion, N3.11 billion, N3.81 billion, and N3.39 billion, respectively.

 

Food allowances consumed N518.45 million in 2016, while travel allocations consumed N2.75 billion.

 

 

 

Food allowances consumed N681.79 million in 2017, while travel allocations consumed N2.43 billion.

 

In 2018, however, there was an increase, with food allocations totaling N582.75 million and travel allocations totaling N3.23 billion.

 

In 2019, there was again another drop. Food allowances consumed N617.45 million this year, while travel allocations consumed N2.98 billion.
